Congratulations to IMED trainee Brendon who won two university prizes for his final year project. Brendon was awarded best electrical project for commercialisation and best electrical project overall.
We're so proud of everything Brendon's achieved and have thoroughly enjoyed helping him hone his skills. Congratulations Brendon! IMED are thrilled to have seen the IMED LED Dimmer 2.0 featured in Marine Business, Boating Business, and the latest Boating NZ which is on shelves now.
Superyacht control panel and electrical design experts, IMED, will present a 2.0 version of their innovative dimmer to the market at METS. The dimmer has been used by the company within its electrical applications and, due to demand by customers, is now available as a stand-alone product.
The new and improved IMED Dimmer is now available offering additional features; fade in and out, smoother transitions and is stackable for larger, varying loads. The dimmers can be set to match minimum light intensities of different equipment, plus all the popular existing features like low level light and feedback contact from the previous model have remained. The dimmer was created to enable crew to better control lighting levels across control panels, decking and interiors and prevents over-bright LED lights, while setting a new standard for smooth, soft lighting transitions. In addition, night navigation becomes safer with the ability to find an ideal low level of light for the highest level of exterior visibility. This single LED Dimmer module can be configured on-site for many options including separate up/down buttons, on/off control disable and slave unit with trim to match the light output. The Dimmer options and function settings were designed in-house based on the needs and complaints of superyacht crew and company director, David Chalmers, draws on his experience as a former superyacht engineer to create products which actively solve problems onboard. With a key focus on quality assurance, all IMED LED Dimmers are individually hand-tested in New Zealand by a member of the IMED team. IMED will be on show at METSTRADE Marine Equipment Trade Show in Amsterdam between the 15-17 November showcasing the new dimmers and their custom-designed helm stations on stand 11.716. We're pleased to be heading to Fiji's Port Denarau Marina to take part in an NZ Marine/Fiji open day. This will take place on 5 August, with a welcome function on 4 August held at the Denarau Yacht Club.

New Zealand marine companies head to Fiji to meet with cruising vessels and superyachts A Fiji/NZ Open Day will be staged on 5 August at Port Denarau Marina and Yacht Club, Fiji, to inform superyachts and cruising yachts, on making the best of their voyage and excursions in New Zealand. Presentations will highlight the world-renowned refit and maintenance capability in New Zealand alongside destinations and marinas. Presented by NZMarine, Destination NZ and Port Denarau Marina, superyachts, cruising yachts and their crew will have the chance to engage one-on-one with representatives from 25 NZ companies, covering facilities and services including marine products, equipment, vessel agency services, refit and maintenance. A Welcoming Function will be held on 4 August at the Port Denarau Yacht Club and Marina, for Fijian Government officials and Fijian companies to meet with their New Zealand government counterparts and New Zealand marine industry companies. The following day it will be down to work, as crew set about the serious business of discovering cruising routes to, from, and around New Zealand, as well as the extensive refit services they’re able to obtain within the country. The cross-nation promotional event is the first of its kind that New Zealand and Fiji have hosted in tandem and is part of a wider initiative to attract superyachts to the Pacific region. “Working cooperatively with the Fijian yacht industry makes sense to us,” says Peter Busfield, Executive Director NZMarine. “Helping yachts gather the information they need to enjoy a longer stay in the Pacific and make the most of their time here, means more work for all of us - Fijian, and New Zealand industries-alike.” With superyachts and cruising vessels requiring periodic refit, maintenance or warranty work, yachts are able to cruise Fiji then move to New Zealand to sit out the Pacific cyclone season. This is the perfect opportunity to undergo refit work, following which they are able to cruise or charter within NZ waters and go onto Australia before returning to Fiji ,Tahiti and other Pacific island countries. New Zealand has recently introduced a 24-month TIE - temporary import entry - for visiting vessels. This means yachts are able to stay in the country for up to two years, undertaking a mix of charter work, owner cruising and maintenance most of which qualifies for exemption from the local 15% Goods and Services tax. The Fiji/New Zealand open day will also feature seminars on passage planning between Fiji and New Zealand, destinations in New Zealand, weather patterns, customs clearance and biosecurity requirements. Companies attending include Marinelogix, Akzonobel, Auckland On Water Boat Show, Babcock NZ, Destination NZ, Doyle Sails New Zealand, Far North Holdings, Harken Fosters, Hutchwilco NZ Ltd, Integrated Marine Group, IMED, Kiwi Yachting, Lancer Industries, Lusty & Blundell, Marina Consultants, NZ Boatbuilding Apprenticeships, Oceania Marine, Oceanmax, Orams Marine, Robinson Interiors, Volpower, Whangarei Marine Promotions Group, Power Equipment NZ, GMS/ General Marine Services, Silo and Viaduct Marina, North Sails, Tenob Wholesale Marine, WhisperPower Pacific, Hobsonville Marina and Volpower. Red or blue? Purple or green? We love giving our clients these extra options which can really set the mood onboard. Helm stations created by the team at IMED feature custom backlighting colours which can easily be changed to suit any condition or occasion. While maintaining the functionality shown across our range these final touches showcase the point of difference IMED is known for.
Next on IMED’s list for customized helm stations is one of the most sought after sailing yachts available for charter, the Dubois-designed 41m Destination.
The new stations will be upgraded to incorporate the new B&G electronics package and BNWAS systems, approved by ABS in an aesthetically pleasing design to suit the elegant character of Destination. Complete with the new and improved IMED RAI which provides more LED’s, on-board dimming and CANBus option the new helm stations will enhance appearance while being functional and easy to use. We’re looking forward to getting started on this exciting project and working with the team from Destination to achieve their desired results. Custom helm builder IMED, has supplied four new helm panels on a 45-metre charter yacht in the Mediterranean - from its base in Auckland.
The project is a first for the company which has previously used its own experts for all installations, no matter where, globally, the yacht was lying. However, with this latest project, IMED worked with onsite project managers and installers to deliver a seamless helm installation process. Cosmetically appealing, waterproof and backlit for night vision, these slickly-branded new panels boast state of the art controls, sticks and an integrated air horn control. The attention to detail in the work is evident in the overall aesthetic of the panels, through to the ability to select any colour of back lighting the operator chooses. A Dubois design built in 2002, this modern classic yacht has a rigorous charter schedule that demands consistent high performance from all components onboard. IMED’s well- designed helms come with a small panel of spares which allow the onboard engineer to change any parts necessary while on the go. IMED is unique in that it is not only creating new and effective solutions to functionality and waterproofing; but is also producing some of the most elegantly designed and aesthetically appealing work on the market. Based in Auckland, IMED has provided electrical design, power generation and automation systems to yachts since 2001. Over the last three years, the company has delivered dozens of custom projects and helms to sailing and motor yachts, with its constant innovation in on-water electrical systems satisfying customers around the world. With demand coming from all corners of the globe, IMED has successfully designed, built and fitted custom helms on a spread of yachts with different cruising needs. |
